We know Soapberries contain saponin, which is a naturally forming chemical within all plant life. You might also know that, according to Wikipedia, saponins are a ‘class of chemical compounds found in particular abundance in various plant species. More specifically, they are amphipathic glycosides grouped phenomenologically by the soap-like foam they produce when shaken in aqueous solutions.’
In other words, since Soapberries have a high saponin content (and saponin lathers in water),they are ideal as a natural laundry detergent and a chemical free cleaning product.
But what exactly would persuade your customers to give up their current detergent and cleaners and switch over to Soapberries?
Aside from being beneficial to the health of the user, the environment,(see Healthy Planet, Healthy People) and the rural communities we source the berries from, Soapberries are easy to use at home. The easiest way is to use the whole berry in the washing machine. Your customers can also make their own liquid detergent at home, which can be used in the washing machine or as a household cleaner and hand-wash.

Here’s How your Customers Can Make the Best of Soapberries from Nepal
In the Washing Machine
Our Soapberries come with small cloth bags in which to place around five Soapberries before putting the bag into the washing machine along with the clothes. More berries might be needed, depending on the size of the wash. To make them more effective it is recommended customers soak the Soapberries in hot water first and add both the berries and the water to the machine. Adding a spoonful of vinegar or baking soda can also enhance the effectiveness of the berries. Soapberries are re-usable for 5 or 6 washes, after which they need to be thrown away in the organic bin or composted in the garden.
The Soapberries can be used for five or six washes, but please note, the more ‘used’ the berries are the less effective they will be on very dirty clothes. Adding a spoonful of vinegar or baking soda can also enhance the effectiveness of the berries.
As a Liquid Cleaner
Soapberry liquid can be made by consumers at home and used as either a liquid washing detergent or as a multi-purpose household cleaner.
It is anticipated that in the future we will be able to provide you with Soapberry liquid, but meantime, please do tell your customers that it is easy to make their own liquid multi-use cleaner at home.
